Sunday Family Service & Intergenerational Activity

Today’s Dharma Talk was presented by Dr. Mike Jaffe. Mike, who also presented at the first Windward Interfaith Service last Tuesday, shared his knowledge of Jewish ethnicity, nationhood, and religion, which are all strongly interrelated, and interwove it with parallels in Buddhism, specifically Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha.

After today’s service, we celebrated our February birthdays. Our intergenerational activity for February had a Valentine’s Day theme and the crafts were enjoyed (and modeled) by all.

February Intergenerational Activity

Sunday Family Service

In his Dharma Talk, Dr. Michael Jaffe shared what he’s learned about Hawaii after moving his family to the islands a couple years ago. Dr. Jaffe has found that the aloha spirit is what makes Hawaii special and that it often parallels the spiritual principle of karma, or causation, where kind thoughts lead to kind words, which in turn lead to kind actions.

Sunday Family Service & Remembrance Day

Dr. Michael Jaffe gave today’s Dharma Talk on suffering, both from a Buddhist perspective as well as from a medical standpoint. Dr. Jaffe specializes in pain management and he shared how both Buddhism and medical science can interact in managing suffering.

Sunday Family Service

In his Dharma Talk today, Dr. Michael Jaffe, a lifelong car enthusiast, shared the many parallels he’s found between studying Buddhism and his latest automotive adventure, owning an all-electric vehicle.

Wyatt and Emma shared highlights from YESS (Young Enthusiastic Shinshu Seekers) Camp, which was held from February 16 to 18, 2019
