Services

Join us for our weekly Dharma Service, every Sunday at 9 am. On the first Sunday of each month, we have family activities focused on providing fun for the whole family.

Programs

Participating in temple programs offers shared opportunities that promote learning and selfless giving. Everyone is welcome to participate in the temple programs.

Development of temple activities is an ongoing pursuit of the sangha (Buddhist community) and moves with the interest and support of its members and the communities it serves.

Obon is a time when families come together

It is a special time because families being together is truly special. Together we honor our parents and ancestors through the service and have fun together at the bon dance.

Kailua Hongwanji Mission's Bon Dance was on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Mahalo to those who joined us for a night of good food, shave ice, andagi, and, of course, dancing.

Established in 1968

Kailua Hongwanji Mission was established in 1968 at its present location in Kailua, Hawaii. In 2012, through the support and vision of its membership, the original temple was demolished and rebuilt. The new temple was completed and dedicated on February 22, 2014, which coincided with major donor Dorthy Ono's 10th Memorial Anniversary.

To enrich people’s lives through Buddhist Teachings that promote awareness and growth which lead to live of gratitude, harmony, and peace.
