Guest Speaker Rev. Arthur Kaufmann

Rev. Arthur Kaufmann was born and raised in New York City. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he relocated to Denver, Colorado and began studying Jodo Shinshu Buddhism at the Denver Tri-State Buddhist Temple.

In 1993, Rev. Kaufmann moved to Hawaii and studied for the Ministry. Rev. Kaufmann received his Tokudo Ordination in 1994 at the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha in Kyoto Japan and his Kyoshi Certification in December of 2007.

Rev. Kaufmann has previously served at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Pearl City
Hongwanji and Aiea Hongwanji Mission and is currently assigned to the Honpa
Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin as an associate minister. He also worked for BDK Sudatta
Hawaii, in charge of book distribution for BDK Sudatta or the Society for the Promotion of Buddhism. Their publication is entitled “The Teaching of Buddha” and it is BDKs’ goal to place the book in all the hotels that will accept it.

Rev. Kaufmann and his wife Judith have five children and 12 grandchildren.
